The Road to Freedom After 40 Wasn’t a Straight Line
Entrepreneurship has been my working life since my early twenties. I started in financial services with A.L. Williams & Associates, where I learned early lessons about sales, trust, communication, leadership, and how people make important financial decisions.
From there, I went on to build and operate businesses across ecommerce, logistics and package consolidation, consulting, and real estate. Real estate became a substantial part of my professional life in Florida, where I spent years helping buyers and sellers navigate complicated, high-stakes decisions. Along the way, I also became a licensed private pilot and served as a pilot with Civil Air Patrol. Every experience taught me something about customers, risk, preparation, systems, persistence, and the difference between owning a business and simply creating another demanding job for yourself.
By 2019, I was ready for another major change. In December of that year, I sold my home, left the United States, and moved to Colombia. That was not a retirement decision. It was a decision to redesign how I wanted to live and work, with greater control over my time and location and a business model built increasingly around systems and digital assets rather than constant physical presence.
I Kept Seeing Smart People Buried Under Too Much Information
The online-business world has no shortage of information. The harder problem is knowing which information matters now, what belongs later, and what you can ignore completely.
I saw people buying more courses, watching more videos, testing more tools, and jumping between business models without ever building enough of one thing to create momentum.
That is the problem Freedom After 40 is designed to address.
The goal is not to know everything. It is to reduce unnecessary choices, identify a realistic direction, take the next useful action, and keep building.
Build on Assets You Control, Then Use Platforms as Tools
I am not telling people to avoid social media, marketplaces, payment processors, email platforms, hosting companies, advertising, software, automation, search engines, or AI. I use third-party technology too. The point is not to make somebody else’s platform the entire business.
A stronger online business increasingly rests on assets and relationships you control: your brand, domain, website, offers, customer relationships, email audience, original content, first-party data, analytics, systems, documented processes, and intellectual property. A website by itself does not make a business valuable. Those pieces become more meaningful when they work together with a useful offer, real customers, traffic, revenue, and operating systems.
Time Freedom
Greater control over when you work and how you structure your day. It does not mean never working or automatically working fewer hours.
Location Freedom
Greater control over where you work. A digitally operated business can often be run from almost anywhere you have the technology and connectivity you need.
Financial Freedom
A business can contribute to greater financial freedom if it becomes profitable and sustainable. It is a possibility built through economic value, not an automatic outcome.
